Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Niajah Simon's victory in the Miss Princess pageant and wish her the best of luck in attain her goal of spreading her love of books and learning to others; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 19th, 2012 Niajah Simon Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Princess pageant can trace its roots back to the Miss Black Teenage Queen pageant, which was founded in 1973; and
 
WHEREAS, participants in the Miss Princess Pageant are encouraged to embrace all models and standards of beauty, including beauty of personal character and of intellect; and
 
WHEREAS, participants in the Miss Princess Pageant participate in an extended weekend program, in which they dedicate themselves to honing their interviewing skills, connecting with community leaders, and working to laying the foundation for lifelong accomplishments; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's Miss Princess, Hazelwood resident, Naijaj Simon, stands as an admirable example of a leader in her community, and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Simon is a dedicated student and Principals List scholar at Urban League Charter School, where she has just finished 5th grade; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Simon's passion is reading and learning, which she hopes to share with others throughout her life as demonstrated by her goal of becoming a librarian; and
