Title: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Ida Mae Birchler for her dedication and loyalty to the children and citizens of Pittsburgh as she retires and commends her 18 years of dedicated and professional service.

WHEREAS, Ida Mae Birchler is a lifelong resident of the City of Pittsburgh, who with her husband Stanley has raised three children and will soon be welcoming the arrival of her fifth grandchild; and
 
WHEREAS, as a long time resident of Overbrook, Mrs. Birchler is well known for her love of lighthouses and home decorating; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Birchler has always had a special affection for children and after her own children were grown and her obligation as a member of parent and teacher organizations had ceased she joined the ranks of Pittsburgh crossing guards in 1986; and
 
WHEREAS, she has been serving as a crossing guard for Concord Elementary School in Carrick for the past fifteen years handling the difficult intersection of Brownsville Road and Becks Run Road; and
 
WHEREAS, during that time Mrs. Birchler has become a beloved and valued member of the Concord Elementary community, seeing to the safety of students, teachers and senior citizens; while valuing the uniqueness of all the children in her charge and treating them as her own.
