WHEREAS, in 2008, Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. will celebrate its 25th year as the premier resource for community leadership in southwestern Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, from its start in 1983, when Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. was initially organized under the auspices of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, its services have continued to grow, and Leadership Pittsburgh is now an independent nonprofit organization with a mission of strengthening regional leadership through programs, partnerships, and connections; and,
WHEREAS, today, twenty-five years later and with more than 1,400 graduates, Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.'s tremendous impact is evident all around the region; and,
WHEREAS, Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.'s three core programs reach out to both established and emerging leaders as well as nonprofit board members in an effort to empower today's regional leaders and cultivate those of the future ; and,
WHEREAS, Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. is known for and proud of its history and broad spectrum of graduates represented on our community's boards and commissions as they work to maximize our region's potential;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and celebrate Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.'s commitment to creating strong networks of well-informed, diverse leaders who serve the greater Pittsburgh region and open, eyes, minds and doors; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 24, 2008 to be "Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
