Whereas, the Missionary Temple Church of God in Christ celebrated "Community Day" on August 28th, 2004 in honor of Reverend Leonard T. Jones and his work with youth in the community; and
Whereas, in 1996 Reverend Jones was inspired to direct members of his congregation in the continued operation of the Evangelism ministry. In doing so, he emphasized the importance of summer outreach services, Sunday school, Bible class, a young people's ministry, vacation Bible school, and drug deliverance ministry, all of which involve educating and preparing young people; and
Whereas, Reverend Jones instilled discipline and ambition in many young men through sport as the founder of the first basketball league for Christian men in Pittsburgh and a wrestling coach at Carnegie Mellon University; and
Whereas, Reverend Leonard Jones was ordained pastor of Missionary Temple Church of God in Christ in 1952 and has continually prayed with and met the spiritual needs of those in his community during church services and house-to-house visits; and
Whereas, Reverend Jones also works for the physical health of those in the community through providing food through a food bank and formerly working as chairman of the Heart Fund Drive in Homestead, Pennsylvania; and
Whereas, Reverend Jones was a loving husband to the late Evangelist Alberta Peaches Jones for 34 years.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh joins the congregation of Missionary Temple Church of God in Christ in honoring and celebrating Reverend Leonard T. Jones for all that he has done to guide and help the youth of the city of Pittsburgh.
