Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pride for its diligent work in increasing the awareness of the LGBT community and promoting diversity in the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of June 2013 to be “Pittsburgh Pride Month” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh is to increase awareness and understanding of and improve the quality of life for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region; and
 
WHEREAS, the Delta Foundation leads the celebration of Pittsburgh Pride 2013, from June 7 through 16, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, the purpose of celebrating Pittsburgh Pride is to recognize the events of the New York City Stonewall uprising of 1969 which is generally regarded as the beginning of the quest for basic LGBT rights; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride started as a one-day event consisting of a parade and festival and has grown to a 10-day celebration with over 85,000 participants consisting of events that promote the diversity of the Pittsburgh region; and
 
WHEREAS, major donors including, but not limited to, American Eagle, the Pittsburgh Foundation, UPMC, Highmark, PNC Bank, ALCOA, CCAC, Direct Energy, Giant Eagle, Google, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Tribune Review have come together and provided the resources necessary to produce events for the entire Pittsburgh region to enjoy; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride consists of major events including the Pub Crawl, the Pride Awareness March, PrideFest, and Pride in the Street featuring the Grammy nominee and "American Idol" finalist Adam Lambert.
