Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks the Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise for its efforts to assist economically disadvantaged communities and recognizes its 40th year of service; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares April 3, 2009, “PACE Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise (PACE) is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 1968 through a partnership of the United Fund and the Community Chest, the Health and Welfare Association, the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and key leaders in the African American community; and
 
WHEREAS, the mission of PACE is to strengthen the community based nonprofit organizations that potentially or demonstrably can assist African American and economically disadvantaged communities to identify their needs and take effective actions; and
 
WHEREAS, since its inception, PACE has provided over $10 million in grants plus technical assistance to over 300 nonprofit organizations in isolated and neglected areas of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, on April 3, 2009, PACE will host the first annual Inclusive Voices, a community exchange luncheon, for individuals to connect, learn and understand; and
 
WHEREAS, Inclusive Voices will be led by a community leader at each table who will pose questions and share experiences to spark discussion among the attendees.
