WHEREAS, the Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF), located on Pittsburgh’s North Side, has been an instrumental force in promoting health equity in Pittsburgh, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States of America, and beyond since 1958; and,

WHEREAS, BBF works to fulfill its mission of creating more sustainable forms of aid by supporting localized programs and providing essential resources in the areas of healthcare, infrastructure, disaster relief, and education; and,
WHEREAS, BBF has supplied relief shipments and supported programmatic work through grants in Pittsburgh, the broader Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, most recently devoting time to supporting the Ukrainian population impacted by the current war; and,
WHEREAS, the “Ukraine Relief Fund,” started by the BBF, has raised $3.3 million in funding to provide medical supplies, medications, and prosthetics as well as on-the-ground mental health programs and rehabilitation care in collaboration with BBF’s partnerships with neurologists and hospital systems in the United States and Ukraine; and,
WHEREAS, the financial support and partnerships of BBF have most recently led to increased support of Ukrainian refugees in need of medical care both abroad, through the opening of “The Center for Mental and Psychosocial Support” in Lithuania, and in the United States, through the support of wounded Ukrainian soldiers through the Operation Renew Prosthetics for Ukrainian Soldiers; and,
WHEREAS, the mobilization efforts of the Pittsburgh community in support of Ukraine have manifested in school drives in Dormont and Sewickley, and a partnership between BBF and the City of Pittsburgh kicked off an 11-day drive that resulted in the collection and distribution of over 5,000 hygiene kits for Ukrainian refugees.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Monday, November 14, 2022 to be Brother’s Brother Foundation Day here in our City of Pittsburgh.
