Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 17th, 2012, to be Page Dairy Mart Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, founded in 1951 by Charles Alexander Page, Page Dairy Mart began as a local experiment in soft-serve ice cream and has become an iconic, far end of East Carson Street destination for every sweet-tooth in Pittsburgh come the warmer months; and,
 
WHEREAS, Page Dairy Mart has involved six generations of Pages in the production of delicious dairy treats, from owner Charles Alexander Page, to his son Charles Richard Page, to current owner Charles Abbott Page and his family; and,
 
WHEREAS, Page Dairy Mart has been open 61 years, surviving a massive gas explosion in 1958 that practically leveled the building, and has outlasted the other Page family business, a nearby gas station, which closed in the late 1980's; and,
 
WHEREAS, current owner Charles Page embodies the spirit of a community-minded entrepreneur by featuring sweets from local Pittsburgh small businesses in Page Dairy Mart's own ice cream creations, such as chocolate chip cookies from Nancy B's Bakery, chocolate-covered pretzels from Esther's Homemade Candies in Carrick, and coffee from Prestogeorge Coffee in the Strip ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburghers throughout the city, including this Councilman, will gladly stand in long lines in the spring and summer to get a delicious ice cream treat at Page Dairy Mart without blinking an eye; and,
