WHEREAS, Melissa Kilmer first moved to Pittsburgh in 2000 to study photography at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh while working as a waitress at Froggy’s in downtown to support herself, AND;
WHEREAS, After graduating, Melissa began work as a photographer in Florida, where she had her first son Johan before moving back to Pittsburgh in 2006 when she bought a house in Brookline sight unseen, all while pregnant with her second son Haden, AND;
WHEREAS, In 2007 Melissa began operating her photography business which in a few years’ time became a staple storefront on Brookline Boulevard before sadly closing down during the COVID pandemic, AND;
WHEREAS, Following the birth of her daughter Jane in 2008 and son Aaron in 2011 Melissa began to pursue her passion of service and volunteerism by joining the Brookline Chamber of Commerce in 2015, AND;
WHEREAS, Melissa took on an outsized role in the Chamber of Commerce and its successor organization Brookline Together through her active board membership wherein she planned and organized many of the events Brookline residents come to expect, such as the Sunday Farmer’s Market, Tuesday Food Trucks, Holiday Light Up Night, and most notably the Brookline Breezefest which includes dozens of vendors, musicians, food trucks and a classic car show, AND;
WHEREAS, After a decade of community leadership Melissa stepped back to spend time bowling, gardening, canning, crafting, and most importantly being with her family,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Melissa Kilmer for her commitment and dedication to her community; AND,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 20, 2025 to be “Melissa Kilmer Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
