WHEREAS, the Diocese of Pittsburgh, celebrates National Catholic Schools Week Sunday, January 31 through Saturday, February 6, 2016; and,
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is one of the top ten states with the highest Catholic school enrollment and a graduation rate of 99%; and,
WHEREAS, Catholic Schools across the City of Pittsburgh focus on the value of Catholic education with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members; and,
WHEREAS, daily themes focus on the contribution that a Catholic education provides to Our Parish, Our Community, Our Students, Our Nation, Our Vocations, Our Faculty, Staff and Volunteers and Our Families; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to the academics, Catholic Schools add strong moral values and a high level of service to local communities because of the many service projects students undertake as part of their curriculum; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Diocese of Pittsburgh for creating a legacy of academic achievement, service and faith for 189 years and for instilling important values in our children; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of Sunday, January 31 through Saturday, February 6, 2016 to be "Catholic Schools Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
