Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Urban Youth Action, Incorporated for its groundbreaking and visionary work to empower young people to become productive and responsible citizens; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 10, 2008, to be “URBAN YOUTH ACTION, INC. DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Urban Youth Action, Incorporated was founded in 1966 to empower young people to develop positive life and leadership skills by connecting learning to the world of work and the pursuit of post secondary education; and,
 
WHEREAS, Urban Youth Action, Inc. has worked to develop a community of adults and young people who share many values, goals and responsibilities and are dedicated to the development of the whole person into a confident, courageous, self-disciplined and responsible individual; and,
WHEREAS, Urban Youth Action, Inc. had adapted its mission to meet the changing needs of young people over the years and offers an After School Program, a School Based Program, and an Outreach Program in it efforts to emphasize the importance of education, employment readiness, community service and leadership development; and,
 
WHEREAS, Urban Youth Action, Inc. will hold its 42nd Annual Banquet on June 10, 2008, with the theme, Education: Passport to the Future with Dr. Alvin Poussaint, author, psychiatrist, educator and respected social critic, Professor of Psychiatry and Faculty Dean for Student Affairs at Harvard Medical School, discussing his most recent book, Come On, People! On the Path from Victims to Victors, which he co-authored with Dr. Bill Cosby; and,
 
WHEREAS, as part of the 42nd Annual Banquet, UYA will host a college fair and a private reception with Dr. Poissant and will honor FedEx Ground, Penn State Greater Allegheny and Mrs. Lennie Henry
