WHEREAS, Cheri Smith, born on September 29, 1950, in the vibrant and historic Hill District. For over two decades, Ms. Smith has been a committed community leader and advocate, serving as a Democratic committee woman and,
WHEREAS, Cheri’s work has touched many lives and strengthened the fabric of her community. Ms. Smith’s legacy includes being a member of Homewood Concerned Citizens, Operation Better Block Cluster 5 Group, Secretary of the 13th Ward Democratic Committee, Secretary of Bennet Place Tenant Council, NAACP Pittsburgh Branch, volunteer work at Community Empowerment Association (CEA) and the Homewood Children’s Village and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Smith is the beloved mother of one daughter, Serena Broughton. Her family has continued to grow, blessing her with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and cherished deeply. Family has always been central to Cheri's life, and she took great pride in nurturing and supporting her loved ones; and,
WHEREAS, Cheri Smith's unwavering commitment to her community and her family has left a lasting impact. Her legacy of service and leadership continues to inspire those around her, and her contributions have paved the way for future generations to build upon.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the September 29th, 2025 to be “Cheri Smith Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
