WHEREAS, on April 9, 2008, just after 2:00AM in the morning, a fire was reported in front of 459 Kilbourne Street in Hazelwood; and,
WHEREAS, the fire spread from the yard to that vacant house, to a vacant house to the left at 457 Kilbourne, and to the house to the right at 461, where three boys, ages 16, 12, and 10, slept while their mother worked night shift at Kane Hospital; and,
WHEREAS, alert neighbors, John Gidel, John Dell and the late Eddie Joyce, knowing that children were in the home, bravely burst in to the house, looking for the children John Gidel sustaining burns trying to knock down the door down in his bare feet sustaining burns; and,
WHEREAS, John Gidel , the late Eddie Joyce and John Dell rescued the boys from the burning home as it was consumed by fire.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend and honor John Gidel, John Dell and the late Eddie Joyce for their bravery and heroism on that day which but for John Eddie and John might have been so much more tragic; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED FURTHER that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares somewhat belatedly but with utmost pride and gratitude that the month of November 2009 is "John Gidel, Eddie Joyce and John Dell Month" in the City of Pittsburgh.
