Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Ira Frank for decades of devoted volunteerism and commitment to Beth Shalom Congregation and congratulates him on his two year tenure as President; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, May 20, 2009, to be “ IRA FRANK DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Beth Shalom Congregation is a traditional, egalitarian, conservative 90 year old Jewish congregation with a rich history located in Squirrel Hill  ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ira Frank, a graduate of the University of Michigan, owner of a family owned business, National Fabrics, and a lifelong member of Beth Shalom Congregation , served as a volunteer at Beth Shalom his entire adult life and will step down as its President on May 20, 2009; and,                            
 
WHEREAS, in his tenure as President of the Board of Beth Shalom Congregation, he oversaw the establishment of  a Strategic Planning Task Force and congregational approval of a Strategic Plan, established a Profile Search Hiring Committee, began a Cemetery Endowment fundraising initiative and will oversee the Tribute Celebration Weekend for Rabbi Stephen Steindel; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ira Frank is also the President of the Beth Hamedrash Hagadol-Beth Jacob Synagogue, located in downtown Pittsburgh , and is on the Boards of the Jewish National Fund, Israel Bonds and Jewish Family Assistance Fund ; and,
