WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association for India's Development and the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh as well as other local community and non-profit organizations have all worked to better the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, these groups believe in promoting a message of conserving the planet's resources for future generations; and
WHEREAS, these groups hope to further convey their message in this event with the hopes to unite all Pittsburghers in a "March for Sustainability" where the guided march will begin at the First Unitarian Church on Morewood Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the "March for Sustainability" will conclude at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park where there will several presentations on conservation by various speakers and including Senator Jim Ferlo, Myron Arnowitt for Clean Water Action, as well as myself; and
WHEREAS, this event will express the message that we can no longer sustain our current wasteful lifestyle and that we must all act together to adopt a lifestyle that will ensure a high quality of life and health for our planet and its inhabitants; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh welcomes the participants, guests, and speakers organizing the "March for Sustainability"; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Saturday October 7, 2006, "March for Sustainability" day in the City of Pittsburgh.
