Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for transpiring through the years and giving confidence to women throughout the world. Their pledge to better our communities has inspired many to follow in the legacy of their sisterhood; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Saturday, March 7 and 8, 2009 as "Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Founders Day Week-end " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc. was founded at Howard University, on January 13, 1913, by a group of college women to use their collective gifts to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships; to provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in their communities.; and
 
WHEREAS, for more than nine decades, Delta Sigma Theta has greatly influenced the lives women and girls by encouraging excellence at all times, as well as impacted countless communities through its commitment to service.  Since its inception, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has grown into a sisterhood connecting more than 200,000 members operating in more than 900 chapters throughout the world; and  
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, which was chartered 1971;  originally chartered April 3, 1927 as Alpha Epsilon Charter at the home of Soror Julia Jones, will honor the founders with the theme of "Embracing the Commitment with Energy, Education and Empowerment," Saturday, March 7th  through Sunday, March 8th at the Founders Day Week-end Celebration; and
