WHEREAS, the purpose of the Wireless Neighborhoods project is to empower communities - to provide access to information technology resources to enable communities to become competitive in education, human development, workforce development, health care and economic opportunity; and
WHEREAS, many communities, especially those in low-income urban areas, lack the resources required to succeed in these activities, especially in the new era of information technology; and
WHEREAS, Wireless Neighborhoods provides the resources to develop necessary human skills and network infrastructure to help community groups enhance their programs and work collaboratively with schools and other community groups; and
WHEREAS, with the vision of Executive Director, Stephen MacIsaac, the former Director of the Hill House Association, and with the help of several East End community organizations, the first Wireless Neighborhoods program was formed in the East End in 2003; and
WHEREAS, with the success of the program, the staff of Wireless Neighborhoods is working to expand and initiate programs in the Northside, South Hills and West End neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Stephen MacIsaac, has a passion for bringing community groups together for the benefit of all children and their academic achievement; and
WHEREAS, with funding from The Heinz Endowments, and a shared vision of improving the quality of life for the residents in the City of Pittsburgh, Wireless Neighborhoods is here to stay.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends Stephen MacIsaac and the staff of Wireless Neighborhoods for working diligently to reach out to as many neighborhoods as possible the City of Pittsburgh.
