Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend LaShawn Reed for the completion of her first novel and for her commitment to the young women in the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 16, 2016, to be "LaShawn Reed Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, LaShawn Reed  is the founder and CEO of Strong Ambitious Women, LLC that specializes in mentoring teenage girls in order to build self-esteem, confidence and identity awareness and provides resources to young women to enhance their future; and,

 

WHEREAS, the curriculum  she wrote for the mentoring program, which is also being used in several organizations, was the inspiration for her debut novel “You Are Your Thoughts”; and,

 

WHEREAS, her self-help book shares advice on how to master your thoughts and feelings in order to have a better understanding of who you are; and,

 

WHEREAS, LaShawn is also a Character Coach for the Shadow Student Athletes mentoring program at three Pittsburgh Public Schools: Langley K-8, South Hills 6-8 and Arsenal 6-8; and,

 

WHEREAS, working closely with the students’ teachers, athletics departments and parents, she mentors girls at the schools in order for them to improve academically, be culturally enriched, develop their character and have enhanced life skills; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Reed holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Point Park University and dedicates her free time to the young girls in her community; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,  that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend LaShawn Reed for the completion of her first novel and for her commitment to the young women in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 16, 2016, to be “LaShawn Reed Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
