WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library, was started in 1975 as a volunteer run cooperative organization to provide young children, their parents and caregivers with a safe , fun place to play and to access high-quality, age-appropriate toys for home play;
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library is located in the basement of the First United Methodist Church in Shadyside and is completely staffed by volunteers who raise operating funds through reasonably priced memberships, facility rental for private parties, and various fundraisers; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library provides a relaxed atmosphere for mothers, fathers and other caregivers to meet and discuss child-rearing and has become abase for parents to explore Pittsburgh with their children; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library also provides several outreach programs to foster healthy families, such as including free passes to the local woman's shelter, Ronald McDonald House, Family House and Children's Hospital; provides discounted services to CYF for foster families and free passes to case managers working with families on reunification; and collecting food and turkey certificates for the food pantry at First United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library will kick off a week of activities to commemorate the organization's 30th year beginning on May 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mattress Factory, to honor current and past members who have dedicated themselves to the organization's mission.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library for effectively serving the needs of young children and families in Pittsburgh's East End for the past thirty years; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares the week of May 2, 2004 to be "Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
