WHEREAS, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System will join VA Medical Centers across the country in celebrating National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week from February 11-17, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System is to deliver quality healthcare to our nation's veterans by recognizing its role in protecting the health and safety of its patients; and,
WHEREAS, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System will be hosting its Salute to Hospitalized Veterans by inviting community organizations and individuals to visit a veteran during the week of the National Salute to show loyalty and appreciation for these deserving citizens who served our country in military uniform ; and,
WHEREAS, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System recognizes that a bedside visit to a hospitalized veteran provides comfort and encouragement to veterans who are facing illness or recovering from injury from the current war and commemorate their sacrifices with a personal visit; and,
WHEREAS, opportunities to visit hospitalized veterans are available at the Highland Drive Division , the University Drive Division, and the H.J.Heinz Division during the week of February 11-17, 2008.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System for its extraordinary care of the nation's veterans in this region; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 11- 17 as the "National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
