Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby acknowledges the inimitable contributions Sally Wiggin has made as a journalist and outstanding community leader; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby declares Tuesday, March 17, 2015, "Sally Wiggin Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, Sally Wiggin has educated, entertained, and amazed Pittsburghers with her journalistic talent and unique perspective for thirty-five years, beginning in 1980, and;

Whereas, Wiggin, a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Alabama and holds a Master's degree in Asian Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Later, she studied the Japanese language at the University of Pittsburgh, and;

Whereas, Sally Wiggin has hosted WTAE's Chronicle and co-hosted "Black and Gold Primetime" since its 1993 inception. While hosting and reporting for Chronicle, the show has won numerous state and regional awards including a regional Emmy for Living Like Lou, a documentary about ALS. In September 2008, Wiggin was selected Best Female Newscaster by the readers of Pittsburgh Magazine. In September 2009, they chose Wiggin and Mike Clark Best News Team, and in 2010, 2011 and 2012, they chose Wiggin Favorite News Personality, and;

Whereas, a sampling of the journalistic awards won by Ms. Wiggin includes: United Press International Best Special Award (1987), was nominated for a 1987 Golden Quill Award, 2008 regional Emmy for her role in the WTAE 50th Anniversary Special, in 1977, she was a member of a four person investigative team that won the RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award, She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pittsburgh Radio & TV Foundation and the Humanitarian of the Year award for United Cerebral Palsy in 2003, Ms. Wiggin has been awarded Lifetime Achievement Awards from both Animal Friends and the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. For 15 years she was the honorary chairperson of the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days Campaign. In 2009, she was honored as one of the YWCA's Women of the Year, and in 2011 was named the Woman of Distinction in Media by the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and received the David L. Lawrence Award from Amen Corner for community service, and;
