WHEREAS, Women In Bio (WIB) is a national organization dedicated to promoting careers, leadership, and entrepreneurship for women in the life sciences, with a thriving Pittsburgh chapter serving Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and West Virginia; and,
WHEREAS, since its founding in 2012, WIB-Pittsburgh has fostered mentorship, education, innovation and networking to support women across the life sciences ecosystem, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and related industries; and,
WHEREAS, WIB-Pittsburgh hosts an annual event known as P.O.W.E.R. (Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally) that celebrates and elevates women leaders whose vision and expertise drive entrepreneurship, scientific discovery, and healthcare transformation; and,
WHEREAS, this year marks the fourteenth annual P.O.W.E.R. event, to be held on October 15, 2026, with the theme “Pittsburgh’s P.O.W.E.R. in a Changing Therapeutics Landscape”, celebrating everything Pittsburgh has to offer for developing novel therapeutics, building on its legacy of developing vaccines like the Polio vaccine that saved millions of lives around the world; and,
WHEREAS, P.O.W.E.R. 2026 will feature an inspiring panel of trailblazing women leaders who are at the forefront of the rapidly changing therapeutic landscape, sharing how breakthrough science, emerging technologies, evolving regulations, and bold leadership are shaping the next generation of healthcare innovation;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 15 to be “Women in Bio P.O.W.E.R. Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
