Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates the students who are participating in the Transition to Careers Program and commends the Pittsburgh Public Schools' Program for Students with Exceptionalities for its commitment to these students. WHEREAS, the Transition to Career Program involves students from Pittsburgh Public Schools participating in a district wide transition program spent learning about their strengths and weaknesses while preparing for life after graduation; and
WHEREAS, On May 11th the Pittsburgh Public Schools' Program for Students with Exceptionalities, in partnership with Pittsburgh Cares, organized a city wide Youth Leadership Day during which students were able to demonstrate leadership skills by serving their communities. Over 115 students were welcomed and performed services at Angel's Place, East Ohio Street, East End Cooperative Ministries, the Veterans Administration, Jubilee Soup Kitchen, PA Bidwell, Frick Environmental Center, Asset Inc., and the Center for Creative Play; and
WHEREAS, On May 19th Pittsburgh Public Schools' Program for Students with Exceptionalities, in partnership with LifesWork of Western Pennsylvania, organized a city wide Transition to Career Day during which students were able to explore Career Opportunities available in the City of Pittsburgh and were provided with career guidance from employees of the many groups in attendance; and
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to recognize and thank all participants for their support of the program including Pittsburgh Public Schools' Program for Students With Exceptionalities, Pittsburgh Cares, LifesWork of Western PA, CIGNA Group Insurance, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Mellon Bank, Pittsburgh City Council, Port Authority of Allegheny County, ALCOSAN, Allegheny General Hospital, and transition students and staff from Taylor Allderdice, Brashear, Schenley, McNaugher, Carrick, Perry Traditional Academy, David B. Oliver, Brashear, Langley, Peabody, and Westinghouse.
