Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the contributions of Goodwill Industries to the City of Pittsburgh and commends the fine efforts of Comcast Cable Communications in assisting Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh to refurbish their property and construct a new parklet; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Wednesday, May 5, 2004 COMCAST CARES DAY in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 4, 2003, Comcast Cable Communications and Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh took part in the National Comcast Cares Day; and
 
WHEREAS, over 250 volunteers from Comcast along with Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh employees spent the day at the Goodwill headquarters offices on Pittsburgh' South Side painting, landscaping and cleaning Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh's building and surrounding areas; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to the professional services, supplies, materials and the long hours by the volunteers, Comcast donated a check in the amount of $15,000 to Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, the combined efforts of Comcast and the Goodwill Industries enhanced Goodwill's community presence and brightened the lives of both clients and staff; and
 
WHEREAS, on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, Mayor Tom Murphy and City Council President Gene Ricciardi joined officials and staff from Comcast and Goodwill Industries in dedicating a parklet at the corner of S. 26th Street and Carson Street.  The parklet was constructed on an undeveloped piece of Goodwill property and contains a plaque with the following inscription:  "Renovated in Partnership by Comcast Cable Communications & Goodwill Employees; COMCAST CARES; October 4, 2003"; and
