WHEREAS, the Dawkins Family will commemorate 150+ years of history in their 12th family reunion, to be held August 5 to August 7 in the Marriott City Center Hotel, with the theme "Reconnecting and Remembering our Roots" to mark the celebrations; and,
WHEREAS, the anniversary will recognize the family's patriarch, Rev. Oliver N. Dawkins, its matriarch, Pleasant Dawkins, and the eight children they birthed in South Carolina; and,
WHEREAS, Oliver and Pleasant's third child, Coleman Chatfield Dawkins, moved from South Carolina to Pittsburgh where he met and married another North Carolina native, Mary Frances Eaton, thereby beginning the story of the Dawkins' lineage in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Coleman and Mary settled in Webster Ave in the Hill District and were blessed with four children, Lorenzo, Elizabeth, Marjory and George; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Dawkins was employed by the City of Pittsburgh's Department of Refuse, where he dedicated a life of service working in the incinerator plant on Smallman Street;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Dawkins Family on their celebrations of 150+ years of history.
