Title
WHEREAS, YERT (Your Environmental Road Trip) is a year-long eco-expedition through all 50 United States with the goal of exploring environmental sustainability options; and
WHERAS, YERT will hold a launch party in Pittsburgh on June 30, 2007 at the Union Project; and
WHEREAS, the YERT road trip will begin in Pittsburgh on July 4, 2007 and end in the San Francisco Bay on July 4, 2008, covering a distance of more than 25,000 miles; and
WHERAS, the YERT road trip team members who will travel through all 50 states are:
· Mark Dixon
· Ben Evans
· Julie Dingman Evans; and
WHERAS, the idea for YERT developed after Mr. Dixon attended a silent retreat during the 2006 San Francisco Green Festival and then convinced his friends to join his efforts; and
WHEREAS, the YERT team will be filming the people, places, and programs they encounter for videos that will be posted to the website which will allow individual from across the 50 states and beyond to follow the road trip progress.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City Pittsburgh recognizes YERT for its drive to inform the American public about environmental and sustainability options in a way that is both educational and entertaining; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 30, 2007, "Your Environmental Road Trip Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
