Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we announce the opening of Kuntu Repertory Theatre's production of Bubbling Brown Sugar and welcome home one of Pittsburgh's own, leading actress, Vivian Reed; and
Whereas, Bubbling Brown Sugar opens Thursday, January 27, 2005 and runs through Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
Whereas, honored to be home again, raised on Wandless St. in the Middle Hill District, Ms. Reed began her formal voice training at the premier Pittsburgh Musical Institute, and received formative coaching from Mrs. Romaine Russell and Mr. John Cahais; and
Whereas, Dr. Vernell A. Lillie, Founding/Producing Artistic Director and Dr. Renee Berry Mack, Board President of Kuntu Repertory Theatre, share these accolades: "The Board, students, professional performers, and community participants in Kuntu Repertory Theatre of the Department of Africana Studies at the University of Pittsburgh salute the magnificent talent and social commitment that Vivian Reed has made to the Pittsburgh Community and to the Vintage Association. She is a rare jewel in this global society of arts who has enjoyed Broadway, Europe, and the world as a multi talented artist in acting, dancing, directing and singing."

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council proudly announces the opening of Kuntu Repertory Theatre's 2005 production of Bubbling Brown Sugar as it welcomes home and recognizes the significant contribution of Paris' New Josephine Baker, Vivian Reed, to Pittsburgh's greats and the genre of performing arts throughout the world.
