WHEREAS, AIA Pittsburgh is a professional association of architects that improves, for society, the quality of the built environment by further raising the standards of architectural education, training, and practice, fostering design excellence, and promoting the value of architectural services to the public; and
WHEREAS, architects are trusted advisors, creative problem solvers, and navigators who improve return on investment for all by helping to make the best decisions possible in the building process and creating spaces and places where people want to be; and
WHEREAS, AIA Pittsburgh members are industry experts who help contribute to the success of our region by creating a market for goods and services, supporting talent attraction and retention, and bringing national and international attention to Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, AIA Pittsburgh and its member architects work to improve the experience of home, office, and city for everyone, making life easier and more enjoyable, safe, sustainable, and productive; and
WHEREAS, Design Pittsburgh, a signature program of AIA Pittsburgh, celebrates excellence in architecture and design and honors those who create it, support it, and facilitate it; and
WHEREAS, this year's Design Pittsburgh Awards and Gala will be held on Thursday, October 11th at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Education Center; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize AIA Pittsburgh for their work towards building a better city and region; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 11, 2012 "Design Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
