Whereas, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. (PCSI) celebrates its 22nd Annual Meeting and its mission to ameliorate the lives of people who live in poverty and who are seeking a plan to overcome their adversity; and
Whereas, PCSI, which holds agency membership in Community Action Partnership, provides outreach services that assist in eradicating the social and educational factors related to poverty; and
Whereas, Community Action Partnership, a national organization that receives state and federal funding, serves as an advocate for policy on poverty and provides supportive services to its member agencies to ensure that the issues of poverty are heard and met; and
Whereas, in the City of Pittsburgh where there are some 63,866 people living in poverty [2000 U.S. Census Report], PCSI is available to serve those families, youth and senior citizens through its five (5) programs: 1) the Community Action Center which provides individual and family case management; 2) the Community Action Learning Center which provides educational services; 3) the Neighborhood Safety Program which provides home safety devices and fire safety training; 4) the Project Life Line which provides in-home services to adjudicated and at-risk youth; and 5) the Supported Work Program which provides clients, referred by the Department of Welfare, with job development, support and placement services.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council lauds Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. on the occasion of its 22nd Annual Meeting for the work it does to help eradicate generational poverty in the City of Pittsburgh.
