Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Operation Save Our Youth for their commitment to young people in and around the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 24, 2013, to be “Operation Save Our Youth Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS,  Operation Save Our Youth (OSOY) was founded in 2005 by Reverend James L. Brown in order to provide youth with a safe place to have fun, learn, grow and interact with his/her peers without the fear of bullying or encountering violence; and,
 
WHEREAS, in addition, the faith-based non-profit organization OSOY was formed to provide activities that enable mentoring to our youth through common means such as the Friday Night Basketball program where they encounter close to 70 teen boys interacting with 5 - 10 young adult men on a weekly basis; and,
 
WHEREAS, OSOY created late night and weekend programs that operate when other organizations and churches do not, in order to keep youth off the streets; hence their motto, "we go when others stop"; and,   
 
WHEREAS, currently serving approximately 190 youth per week, OSOY brings a structured environment to youth of all walks of life in order to succeed at everyday living and builds relationships and collaborations with community based ministries and organizations in order to have a positive impact on entire communities, hoping to serve as a model for other groups; and,
