WHEREAS, the Federal Bureau of Investigation originated from a force of Special Agents created in 1908 by then Attorney General Charles Bonaparte during the Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt; and
WHEREAS, their mission is to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats and to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal and international agencies and partners; and
WHEREAS, the priorities of the FBI include protecting the United States from terrorist attack; protecting the United States against foreign intelligence operations and espionage; combating public corruption at all levels; protecting civil rights and combating major white-collar crime and significant violent crime; and
WHEREAS, the FBI now employs a total of 30,847 employees all around the glove, including the headquarters in Washington, DC; 56 field offices; 400+ resident agencies in smaller cities and towns across the nation and 60 international office and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh office is lead by Special Agent in Charge, Michael A. Rodriguez, and provides the 25 counties of Western Pennsylvania and all of West Virginia with extraordinary services and protection; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the remarkable 100 year history of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and its service to the United States of America, the City of Pittsburgh and the surrounding area,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHERED RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim, July 28, 2008, "FBI Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
