WHEREAS, the Lebanese-American family of Our Lady of Victory Maronite Catholic Church has served Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania for more than a century since its founding in 1902; and,
WHEREAS, family is the most important social and economic institution of the Lebanese-American community, where it is common for relatives to live together in the same neighborhood and sometimes in the same household; and,
WHEREAS, hospitality is considered to be one of the most admired virtues of a family where food plays a key role in expressing hospitality which helps to ensure that guests feel as welcome as possible; and,
WHEREAS, the Lebanese-American community of Our Lady of Victory Maronite Catholic Church, located at 1000 Lindsay Road in Carnegie, offers both family and hospitality at their annual Pittsburgh Lebanese Festival which will be held from Friday, September 7 through Sunday, September 9th, 2018; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to the array of Lebanese-American food, there will be live entertainment on Saturday by the Lebanese singer Said Abi Akl and Band in order to enjoy Dabke, a folk dance combining a circle dance and line dancing and is a symbol of love, life and struggle; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Lebanese-American community of Our Lady of Victory Maronite Catholic Church for their commitment to family and faith and serving the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, September 7-9, 2018, to be “Lebanese-American Days” in the City of Pittsburgh.
