Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Howard Todd for his hard work, dedication and his service to the Mount Washington area; and. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 3rd, 2012, to be “Howard Todd Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Howard Todd, an Elliott native, learned from an early age what hard work and determination really was while trying to make an extra dollar or two, by  cutting grass, shoveling snow around the neighborhood or any other job he could find; and,
WHEREAS, working since he was 16 for his mentor Mr. Tony Mazzarini Sr. at Parkway Service Station, Mr. Todd learned what kind of work ethic it takes to run your own business; and,
WHEREAS, inspired by economic challenges and always wanting to own his own ice cream shop, in 1993 he took a risk and left his mentor and the station to follow his dream and opened DiFiore's Ice Cream Delite on Shiloh Street in Mt. Washington; and,
WHEREAS, in 2006 he and his wife Patty opened Grand Brew Café coffee shop next door where Mr. Todd can be seen running back and forth all day managing both locations and always willing to offer advice or his opinion to passerby's; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Todd estimates that about 95 percent of his business comes from tourists ranging from North Hills to China; and,
WHEREAS, May 3, 2012 marks his 2,000th straight day of work including weekends and holidays, putting in 12 to16 hours a day of hard work between two shops; and,
