Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend LIFE Pittsburgh and its PACE program for allowing the elderly to remain in their homes to live in dignity and comfort while giving support to their family and caregivers . NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim, November 10 - 14 as LIFE Pittsburgh Caregivers Week in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1997, Joann F. Gago was hired as the Executive Director for LIFE Pittsburgh and began to develop the first Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), in Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh program was patterned after the very first PACE program developed in China Town, San Francisco, based on the Chinese cultural belief that elderly loved ones should be revered and taken care of, as opposed to institutionalized; and
WHEREAS, in February, 1999, they welcomed their first participant to Living Independence For the Elderly, LIFE Pittsburgh ; and
WHEREAS, LIFE Pittsburgh and the PACE model always strive to support the core wishes of the frail elderly to stay in familiar surroundings; to maintain autonomy and to maintain a maximum level of physical, social and cognitive functions; and
WHEREAS, the goals of LIFE Pittsburgh include their best efforts to help the elderly to help themselves; support family members and caregivers; provide services otherwise not available and maximize independence; and
WHEREAS, LIFE Pittsburgh is celebrating its 10th Anniversary of service and support to the elderly and their family's;
