Title: WHEREAS, the population of the City of Pittsburgh is comprised of people of every race, color, religion, disability, ancestry and national origin, sex, sexual orientation, and family size and composition; and WHEREAS, discrimination in housing continues to be a problem for many of our residents, resulting in segregated communities, higher crime rates, loss of opportunities; and WHEREAS, homeownership is a source of stability for families and communities and represents the primary source of wealth for most families; and WHEREAS, we must not take these rights for granted and recognize that discrimination in the terms and conditions of the sale, lease, financing or insuring of real property is illegal, morally offensive and reprehensible; and WHEREAS, above all else, we as duly elected representatives of the people, must dedicate ourselves to work to insure that our communities are open to all people to live the American Dream of homeownership and to chose where they live with...

WHEREAS, discrimination in housing continues to be a problem for many of our residents, resulting in segregated communities, higher crime rates, loss of opportunities; and
 
WHEREAS, homeownership is a source of stability for families and communities and represents the primary source of wealth for most families; and
 
WHEREAS, we must not take these rights for granted and recognize that discrimination in the terms and conditions of the sale, lease, financing or insuring of real property is illegal, morally offensive and reprehensible; and
 
WHEREAS, above all else, we as duly elected representatives of the people, must dedicate ourselves to work to insure that our communities are open to all people to live the American Dream of homeownership and to chose where they live without discriminatory barriers; and
 
WHEREAS, we acknowledge the 39th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act and the work of the U.S. Department of housing and Urban Development, the Pittsburgh commission on Human Relations, and the Fair Housing Partnership of Greater Pittsburgh in insuring that these rights are protected, setting aside the month of April to celebrate and remind all of these rights and responsibilities.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed, by Council of the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, hereby proclaims the month of April 2007 as Fair Housing Month, recognizing that each and every one of us has a share in the future of this great nation, and as a reminder we should not take these freedoms for granted.
