Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate all the outstanding community work of the employees of ALCOA Corporation through the ALCOA Foundation, and thanks them for their work on the Born Learning Trail in Riverview Park on October 8, 2008. Passed in City Council Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

WHEREAS, ALCOA has demonstrated a commitment to "building partnerships and improving quality of life" in the City of Pittsburgh and in ALCOA communities worldwide, and continues to encourage and support ALCOA employees in making a difference through volunteering; and
 
WHEREAS, ALCOA's financial impact on the community is quantified by significant numbers:  for more than 120 years ALCOA has been headquartered in Pittsburgh; over the past 55 years, ALCOA and ALCOA Foundation have been investing in Pennsylvania communities; over the last five years ALCOA Foundation has invested over $15 million in grants to not-for-profit organizations in Pennsylvania, with approximately $11 million going to organizations located in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, on October 8, 2008, ALCOA employee volunteers ("Alcoans") worked to observe the highlight of their volunteer year, the Celebration of Service, by installing a Born Learning Trail inside Riverview Park, involving installation of numerous welcome signs and detailed stenciling along the trail;
 
WHEREAS, approximately 400 local ALCOA employees volunteer during the Month of Service, and 100 "Alcoans" worked on the Born Learning Trail;
