WHEREAS, Jennifer and Thaddeus Hoffman were predominant community activists residing in the West End uniting residents and encouraging volunteerism in their neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Jen and Thad founded the West End Community Group where they have organized and volunteered in numerous community cleanups and plantings, promoted open channels of communication between residents and public safety officials, provided a forum to promote local library activities, annually hosted the largest District 2 National Night Out event and participated in the planning and implementation of OpenStreetsPGH in the West End and they have volunteered at Zombiefest and Saint Phillips Parish School; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman have advocated for historical groups in the West End such as The Old Tavern and the Lewis and Clark expedition connection in the West End neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Jen has served on the boards of the South West Pittsburgh CDC, and the Cultural District 2, an organization which promotes the arts in the community and was certified as part of the City of Pittsburgh’s Community Emergency Response Team; and,
WHEREAS, Jen and Thad will be missed as they are moving back to Maryland for work and to be closer to family; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Jennifer and Thaddeus for their exceptional volunteer work and community service; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 21, 2018, to be “Jennifer and Thaddeus Hoffman Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
