Title
WHEREAS, The OASIS Institute is a national nonprofit organization designed to enhance the quality of life for mature adults by providing education about technology to those who do not want to be left out of the technology revolution; and
WHEREAS, The OASIS Institute and AT&T foundation are working together to help older adults in the Pittsburgh area to strengthen their technology skills as they become increasingly important; and
WHEREAS, The OASIS Institute offers classes for adults over 50 to teach them computer skills such as word processing, job search skills, and how to use email as a form of communication with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, AT&T has awarded The OASIS Institute a $1 million dollar grant to expand the Excellence in Technology Partnership in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh is among the 18 cities participating in the Excellence in Technology Partnership throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, OASIS will hosting the Oasis Connections Conference to meet with AT&T and their 8 other community sponsors that have played a pivotal role in attaining their outreach goals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the commitment of the OASIS Institute to providing mature adults in the City of Pittsburgh with an opportunity to gain vital technological skills, and commends them for their contribution to the community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares October 30, 2007 "The OASIS Institute Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
