WHEREAS, Detective Brett Butkewich has been employed with the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police since 2009, and then promoted to the position of plain-clothes Detective in 2019; and,

WHEREAS, throughout his service, Detective Butkewich has dutifully upheld laws against violent and white-collar crimes; and,
WHEREAS, this highlights his dedication to the community to a high degree - such as when he helped the nonprofit organization ASCEND deal with online harassment; and,
WHEREAS, the online-harassment investigation by Detective Butkewich found relevant information resulting in a search warrant that provided the organization with peace of mind by ensuring the organization’s safety; and,
WHEREAS, an additional investigation by Detective Butkewich where ASCEND was the victim of check fraud resulted in multiple warrants and arrests against the perpetrator; and,
WHEREAS, these cases are of the many examples of Detective Butkewich’s diligence in protecting the people of the City of Pittsburgh against further crimes to keep our neighborhoods safe; and,
WHEREAS, Detective Butkewich exemplifies professionalism, duty, and honor within the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 3; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes August 27, 2024 as “Detective Butkewich Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
