WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Section of the National Council of Jewish Women is a volunteer organization that has been on the forefront of social change for over a century, and inspired by Jewish values, takes a progressive stance on issues such as child welfare, women's rights and reproductive freedom while promoting its mission to improve the lives of women , children and families ; and,
WHEREAS, member volunteers have met many different community needs over the last hundred and eighteen years which have included projects like Pittsburgh's first Free Kindergarten, Head Start, Job Corps, The PA Vision Association, the Jewish Community Center, Life's Work, the Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure and most recently , the Childrens' Play Rooms in the Courts ; and,
WHEREAS, once in an organization's life time comes a volunteer whose passion and commitment to the mission spans decades and serves as a role model for generations of women, and at the Annual Meeting on May 4, 2011, Dorothy “Dottie” Grinberg will be honored for her lifetime commitment to NCJW ; and,
WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women has been fortunate to have had Dottie Grinberg as its most esteemed and dedicated member since 1940 when she joined Section as a young woman and continues to this day to be as dedicated to the beliefs and ideals of NCJW as the day she joined ; and,
WHEREAS, Dottie Grinberg has served NCJW as Chair of the Remembrance Fund since 1986 and as Section's Corresponding Secretary since 1995, strong in the belief that personal communications to the Board and the members are the keys to a connected and engaged membership. Dottie has personally written notes of simcha and condolences for decades, preserving the dying art of handwritten communication.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City if Pittsburgh does hereby commend the National Council of Jewish Women for its work in the region and congratulates Dorothy “Dottie” Grinberg for serving as a r...
