WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 24th, 2007, Concerned Citizens Advocating for Youth is holding its Celebrity Gala; and
WHEREAS, the event is presented by the Royal Tribe Arts Organization, which is a non-profit organization that was established in 1993 to promote the musical performing arts amongst socially and economically disadvantaged youth that are talented or may be positively impacted by receiving aid and assistance in the arts; and
WHEREAS, some of the services offered by this organization include demo recording, biography preparation, photography, artist development courses, professional referrals, video preparation, graphic design and mentorship; and
WHEREAS, the Celebrity Gala is part of a community initiative to mobilize and act upon collective ideas and methods for addressing issues surrounding the academic and life skills development of our region's youth; and
WHEREAS, renowned actress and comedian "Sommore" will be in attendance to highlight the importance of the event; and
WHEREAS, the event is being co-sponsored by Mayor John Thompson and by Ruth Byrd-Smith, Executive Director of the Minority, Disadvantaged and Women's Business Enterprise of Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, several organizations have agreed to underwrite or sponsor the gala, including the Citizens Police Review Board, Communities in Schools, Wilson Home Renovation Services, Chiurazzi and Mengine, LLC, The Soul Pitt, KnK Electrical Services, Venture Outdoors and the Minute Man Press.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Concerned Citizens Advocating for Youth for its efforts to improve the quality of life for local youth; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares April 24, 2007, "Concerned Citizens Advocating for Youth Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
