WHEREAS, Jan Moreland, a life long Northsider, has been a part of the community
from a little girl on Tripoli Street, to growing up in the Brighton Heights neighborhood, and settling down on Venture Street; and
WHEREAS, Jan Moreland has dedicated her life to giving "tender, loving care" to children as an Assistant at the Northmont Child Development Center and Preschool Center; and
WHEREAS, when Jan Moreland witnessed the gradual neglect of the Venture Street
U-bend over five years, she decided to take action to restore a focal point of her neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Jan Moreland reflects the model of an active citizen in the City of Pittsburgh with her constant pursuit of progress and wellness in her neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Jan Moreland persistently obtained the necessary weed blocking material and mulch to fix-up the U-bend on Venture Street, to bring her Observatory Hill neighbors together, clearing 60 bags of overgrown weeds, dead branches, and miscellaneous debris; and
WHEREAS, with the assistance of three volunteers, installed the matting paper to prevent future weed overgrowth, and two supportive neighbors, who helped spread out the mulch to ease the ongoing site maintenance, successfully restored a vital portion of Venture Street; and
WHEREAS, Jan Moreland is most of all the loving wife of David, and mother of Michael and Patrick - always a great and loving family woman;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Jan Moreland for the beautification project of Venture Street as an excellent example for citizens across District 1, and does hereby declare Tuesday, November 1, 2011, to be "Jan Moreland Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
