WHEREAS, the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh is a non-profit organization that works to facilitate design improvements throughout Pittsburgh's urban neighborhoods as a means of fostering citizen participation and neighborhood reinvestment; and
WHEREAS, the Community Design Center supports community revitalization efforts through grants, technical assistance, and education. It encourages public awareness of design as a revitalization tool and influences the involvement of public agencies, other non-profits and design professionals in community development; and
WHEREAS, for the past decade, the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh has sponsored Pedal Pittsburgh, the region's premier cycling event to celebrate architecture and design, health & fitness and urban lifestyles, where the proceeds of the event help fund their mission; and
WHEREAS, this fun and educational bicycle ride draws over 2,000 participants annually and highlights some of the city's best neighborhood amenities and design landmarks that make Pittsburgh unique; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, May 16, 2004, cyclists from all over the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County will gather at the Amphitheatre at Station Square to set out on the 11th Annual Pedal Pittsburgh.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh for their efforts to restore the beauty and quality of life in our urban neighborhoods and wishes a safe and enjoying afternoon for the cyclists as they travel throughout our City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Sunday May 16, 2004 be hereby declared "Pedal Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
