WHEREAS, on February 15, 2005 eighteen students from Taylor Allderdice High School traveled to Slippery Rock University to compete against some 35 regional high schools to show off their language skills as part of Slippery Rock University's department of modern languages and cultures "World Language Competition"; and,
WHEREAS, this competition is a chance to spotlight the importance of undertaking a second language in high school; and,
WHEREAS, the students at Taylor Allderdice came in first place overall during the 2005 Slippery Rock University World Language Competition, for a school to be eligible for the overall prize the school had to compete in at least two languages on at least two levels with a minimum of two students per level and at least six different students competing in each of the two languages.
WHEREAS, as well as winning the overall competition the students who competed in the French and Spanish individual competitions placed in the first, second and third positions respectfully; and,
WHEREAS, the students who participated this year are:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday June 7, 2005 as "Allderdice World Competition Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the students that participated in the 2005 SRU World Language Competition and commend them on a job well done.
