Title

Resolution authorizing the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to suspend on-street metered parking and surface level lots enforcement on various dates throughout the holiday season in recognition of the National Small Business Saturday Campaign.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Saturday, November 28, 2015 is celebrated nationwide as Small Business Saturday; and,

 

WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday is a campaign to raise awareness about the important role that small retailers play in our local economy; and,

 

WHEREAS, small retailers make between 10 and 20 percent of their entire annual profits during the holiday shopping season; and,

 

WHEREAS, offering free on-street and surface-level lot parking for five days - on Saturday, November 28, 2015; Saturday, December 5, 2015; Saturday, December 12, 2015; Saturday, December 19, 2015; and Saturday, December 26, 2015 - will increase sales at our small neighborhood retailers and show City Council’s support for small businesses during some of their busiest shopping days of the year.

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

 

Section 1.  The Pittsburgh Parking Authority is hereby authorized to suspend enforcement of on-street metered parking spaces on the following dates:  Saturday, November 28, 2015; Saturday, December 5, 2015; Saturday, December 12, 2015; Saturday, December 19, 2015; and Saturday, December 26, 2015.

 

Section 2. The Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby encourages the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to suspend enforcement of on-street metered parking spaces and in surface-level lots to support small businesses.
