WHEREAS, over the past 40 years, generations of Northsiders have cherished Schorr Bakery, and the many delicious baked goods that it has to offer; and,
WHEREAS, the Bakery was first opened by Thomas Schorr on Perrysville Avenue in 1973 and with its focus on fresh ingredients and unique baked goods such as the renowned “Gem” pastries, it has become a culinary institution on Observatory Hill for the last four decades. In the 1980s the Schorr family expanded their business and opened a second location in West View; and,
WHEREAS, after taking over his father’s booming business in 1993, Jim Schorr expanded the menu but remained committed to making the freshest and tastiest treats possible; and,
WHEREAS, Schorr Bakery has amassed a following of loyal customers who have patronized this establishment for years. Some of them have even moved away but make it a point to stop by when they are visiting town; and,
WHEREAS, Schorr Bakery has come a long way from its humble beginnings to be recognized as one of the best bakeries in town by Pittsburgh Magazine; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Schorr Bakery for serving the North Side delicious handmade baked goods for over 40 years; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 1, 2016 to be “Schorr Bakery Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
