WHEREAS, the National Academy of Engineering, founded in 1964, is a nonprofit institution providing engineering leadership in service to the nation by promoting technological advances and deploying the expertise and insights of their members; and
WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 20 Chris Hendrickson will be inducted into the National Academy of Engineering for his leadership and contributions in transportation and green design engineering; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hendrickson serves as Duquesne Light Professor of Engineering and co-director of the Green Design Institute at Carnegie Mellon University; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hendrickson has been a pioneer in the field of green design, contributing software tools and methods for sustainable construction, life cycle analyses of products and processes, and lifeline planning for seismic events; and
WHEREAS, the achievements of scholars and professionals like Mr. Hendrickson continue to propel Pittsburgh forward as a leader in science, technology, and education.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the contributions and achievements of 2011 National Academy of Engineering Inductee Chris Hendrickson; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 20, 2011 "Chris Hendrickson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
