Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes July 14th, 2024 as "Beltzhoover Consensus Group Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Beltzhoover Consensus Group (BCG) formed in 2016 by Beltzhoover residents and community organizations to form a collective voice to discuss and resolve concerns of the neighborhood with Larry Harris as president; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Beltzhoover Consensus Group includes the community organizations such as Voices Against Violence founded by Richard Carrington Sr., Earlene Clancy from Voices Against Violence, Daddy’s Hands founded by Martel Hedge, the Beltzhoover Civic Association, the Beltzhoover Neighborhood Council, and the Southside Bears; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nicole Stephens currently serves as the president since 2021, Jennifer Cash Wade as Chairperson of the Housing Committee; and,

 

WHEREAS, current members include but are not limited to Kevin Alton (The Way Organization), DeVon Madden (Shadow Student Athletes), who along with Martel Hedge have created Camp F.U.N. to empower youths, and Kelli Shakur (FroGang); and,

 

WHEREAS, the Beltzhoover Consensus Group has organized impactful initiatives such as Green Days to care for the Beltzhoover environment by picking up litter, ‘Makes a Difference Day’ for local students to clean up community gardens on Climax St. And Gearing Avenue; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Beltzhoover Consensus Group is currently working on neighborhood development and revitalization, having purchased 3 properties already including the Beltzhoover Elementary School with plans to convert it into Dr. Venson Senior Lofts and local residential homes; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Beltzhoover Consensus Group has proved to showcase the resiliency, togetherness, thriving community spirit, dedication to uplifting the neighborhood, and helping fellow neighbors; and,
