Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Amen Corner for establishing an award in the name of David L. Lawrence and congratulates Larry Dunn for a lifetime of public service and for a distinguished and accomplished career that led to being honored with the Amen Corner David L. Lawrence Public Service Award; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, August 27, 2009, to be “ LARRY DUNN DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and,
WHEREAS, Amen Corner has established the David L. Lawrence Public Service Award to honor individuals who emulate the contributions made by this outstanding public servant, an Amen Corner member, who served 4 terms as Mayor of Pittsburgh, making him through his dedication to urban renewal and his influence on the local, state and national level, one of the city's finest civic leaders; and,
WHEREAS, Amen Corner will honor longtime member and former President Larry Dunn with the David L. Lawrence Public Service Award for his long and distinguished service to the city, county and region through his work in government and with veterans organizations, law enforcement, and community agencies; and,
WHEREAS, Larry Dunn, the principal owner of Larry Dunn Associates, a Pittsburgh-based firm specializing in Business and Government Consulting, served as an Allegheny County Commissioner for 11 years, becoming known for promoting honest, efficient government, successfully lowering property taxes while reducing the county budget and working to improve the county's transportation system ; and,
WHEREAS, since leaving public office, Larry Dunn continues to serve the public through his activities with a number of community organizations and is a featured speaker at many Veterans and Law Enforcement events. He has served in numerous leadership capacities and received awards and honors recognizing his skills and accomplishments; and,
