WHEREAS, athletics associations not only teach the rules of the game, but they promote healthy lifestyles through physical and social activities and teach valuable life lessons such as sportsmanship, integrity, confidence, responsibility, respect, and perseverance; and,
WHEREAS, local athletic associations are ran by volunteers who dedicate their time and effort into making each child's experience not only enjoyable, but one that he or she will remember for the rest of his or her life; and,
WHEREAS, the Banksville Athletic Association (BAA) was founded over 50 years ago as a youth baseball program and today offers youth baseball, softball and hockey; and,
WHEREAS, the Elliott West End Athletic Association, began in 1963 as a baseball association in the Elliott community and has since expanded to include girls softball and boys and girls soccer teams; and,
WHEREAS, The Sheraden Baseball Association was created in 1953 and is the longest running baseball organization in the West End of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the Washington Heights Athletic Association offering baseball and softball representing the Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, the Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association (WOAA) began serving the community of Westwood and its surrounding city neighborhoods in the early 1960s offering youth baseball and softball; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the athletic associations and the volunteers in District 2 for their dedication to creating and maintaining athletic organizations that fosters the youth within the community; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, August 4, 2014, to be "District 2 Athletic Association's Day"
in the City of Pittsburgh.
